with
Gordon Clarkson "Mr Versatility" and Clyde Clayton "Magic as you like it"
accompanied by the live music of Paul Stewart.
Gordon starts with "Song and Dance Man", then explains that this show is an entertaining anthology of the medium of Twice Nightly Variety which was born when the Music Halls relegated drinking to bars outside the auditorium, and the chairman was replaced by a lighted number that appeared in the proscenium which related to a number in the printed programmes telling the audience who (or what) to expect next ! This era spans roughly from the beginning of the 1920's to 1960 ish.
The show is then split into 15 minute sections, where Clyde and Gordon alternate with material pertaining to specific performers of variety. Clyde will perform "Classics in Magic" such as "The Chinese Rings", and a stunning Mentalism act, while Gordon in his sections will pay tribute to stars such as Max Miller, and George Robey, and a special feature of Radio signature tunes, as the radio stars were the first to enjoy "multi media" success with their radio shows working in tandem with their variety appearances to feed both mediums.
The show includes humourous anecdotes as well as favourite comedy skeches and songs and magic, right up to the finale when Victor Sylvesters signature tune of "Here's to the next time" sends the audience home singing! Not suprisingly, "Nostalgia" is the key word of this show!
