West End pianist BEN WARN takes a sentimental journey back to Margate's Winter Gardens on 23rd May this year for a special Tea Matinee, at 2pm.
Currently working on developing forthcoming West End projects for top producers, and playing piano in the orchestra for the long running hit musical "Billy Elliot", at the Victoria palace Theatre in London, Ben was delighted to be asked to return to lead the cast in a special revival of Gordon and Joy Clarkson's popular show - "The Music Makers", which he helped create about ten years ago whilst resident musical director for the Clarkson management.
Since then, among his many successes, Ben was on the creative team of the new musical "Daddy Cool", and was musical director for its entire run at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London,s West End, also of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" starring Lorna Luft, and in Decemeber 2011, he completed a tour as musical director of the ever popular "The Snowman", taking the show to major cities in the UK, and Finland!
For him, "The Music Makers" is an extra special event, as many of his colleagues from the original production will be returning to appear for one performance only as part of the ongoing fundraising for the Winter Gardens Centenary appeal which aims to help maintain this exceptional venue being, as it is, one of the jewels in Margate's crown - and having just turned 100 in 2011!
In addition to playing the grand piano for the whole show, supporting his colleagues in an exciting combination of favourite songs from composers such as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Noel Coward, Vivian Ellis, Ivor Novello, and many, many more - Ben will also thrill and delight with solos such as "The Warsaw Concerto" and his 8 minute tour de force; Gershwins "Rhapsody in Blue".
This is a wonderful chance to spend an afternoon in the company of true talent performing the greatest melodies from some of the greatest popular composers we have ever had. The price, as is usual with the Clarkson's, is modest; in line with our sincere policy of making good quality theatre accessible to all.
We are delighted to have been asked by "Mr Charity" himself; big hearted Horace who is co-ordinating this event in association with Thanet LeisureForce who run the Winter Gardens, to take part in fundraising for this lovely building which has entertained thousands and thousands of holidaymakers and locals alike for a hundred years!
